As part of the celebration of 1st of June , which the Parties to the Framework Agreement on the Sava Basin (BA, HR, Rs and SI) have declared as the Sava Day, the International Commission for the Sava River Basin in cooperation with the Global Water Partnership for Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE ) and the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Civil Engineering organized an event, on which the young people presented their works that they had sent to the competition with the slogan “Let’s work with nature!”.
At the beginning, the participants were welcomed by Dragan Zeljko, executive secretary of the Sava Commission, dr. Mitja Bricelj, member of the Sava Commission, prof. dr. Tjaša Griessler Bulc, chair of GWP CEE in the region and prof. Vladan Kuzmanović, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade. In their greetings, they emphasized the importance of young people’s participation in the sustainable management of water resources and thanked them, as well as their mentors, for participating in the competition.
Representative of the Youth Parliament, Azra Aždajić from the “Hazim Šabanović” High School in Visoke (BA), presented the work of the Youth Parliament in the past year, specifically mentioning the 10th Youth Parliament, which took place in October 2022 in Belgrade (RS) and the cooperation of young people in the project “Can you hear our rivers?”.
The main part of the event were short presentations by groups of young people who sent their products to the competition. 26 teams from secondary schools and young people between the ages of 19 and 25 applied covering the topics related to the use of nature-based solutions in the field of water management. Two teams from each of the Parties to the Framework Agreement will be selected to participate in the 11th Sava Youth Parliament, which will be held at the end of September/beginning of October 2023 in Ljubljana (SI).
